A Spring Bucket List

It's finally here. Spring is upon us! The snow is melting in the northern states, and the days are warming up. In the south, the cold damp of the winter is giving way to the warm and sunny days of spring. If you breathe deeply, you can smell the damp earth and the warm spring rain.

With flowers blooming and warm days ahead, it's the perfect opportunity to plan memorable spring activities for you and your kids.

Whether your family enjoys outdoor escapades or creative indoor projects, there are countless ways to celebrate this spring season.

This spring bucket list includes some of my favorite things to do with my family and friends in the spring and I'm sure you will enjoy these fun activities as much as we do!

Outdoor Adventures

Visit a Local Farm

Visiting a local farm offers a wonderful way to connect with nature. Children can see animals up close, learn how food is grown, and even pick fresh produce. For example, during peak strawberry season, many farms in the U.S. offer “U-Pick” events that can yield pounds of delicious berries. Look for farms nearby that may host petting zoos, hayrides, or other seasonal events.

Nature Scavenger Hunt

Transform your local park or even your backyard into an adventure zone with a nature scavenger hunt. Create a list of items for your kids to find, such as yellow flowers, smooth stones, worms or even snails! This engaging activity encourages children to explore their surroundings and pay closer attention to nature.

Plant a Garden

Planting a small (or large) garden with your kiddos is a great way to foster stewardship of the land and love of nature for your kiddos. It also encourages them to observe the plant life cycle, learn names of plants and even find joy in growing their own fruit and veggies that they can eat!

Fly Kites

I don't know about you, but flying kites was one of my favorite things to do when I was a kiddo and it's a classic for a reason. Grab an eye-catching kite and head to an open field to take advantage of the breezy spring weather by flying kites together as a family. Kids will enjoy the thrill of running with the wind, and it teaches them patience and hand-eye coordination as they manage the strings.

Go on a Bike Ride

Get those bicycles out, dust them off and plan a family bike ride through local trails or around your neighborhood. Cycling not only promotes fitness but also allows families to discover new areas together. Depending on your route, consider packing a picnic, including sandwiches and fruits, to refuel during your ride.

Attend a Local Festival

Fall isn't the only season that has festivals, springtime offers its fair share of fun festivals that offer various family-friendly events and activities every weekend. Check your local event calendar to find festivals featuring games, live performances, and delicious seasonal treats.

Stargazing

Spring nights offer the perfect opportunity for stargazing. Grab blankets and pillows, and spend an evening in your backyard, watching the stars. Use an app or a star chart to help your children identify constellations. This can ignite their interest in astronomy and create memorable moments with your family.

Join a Community Sports Team

Spring is a prime time to get active! Search for local sports programs that welcome children of all ages. Joining teams for soccer, baseball, or even swimming classes can help kids make friends, develop teamwork skills, and stay active. Participation can foster a love for physical fitness that lasts a lifetime.

Indoor Fun

DIY Bird Feeders

Bring a touch of spring indoors with a fun DIY project like making bird feeders. Using simple materials such as pinecones, peanut butter, and birdseed, your children can create feeders that attract beautiful birds to your yard. Once hung outside, your family can enjoy watching the birds from your window. This project combines creativity with a bonding experience.

Spring-Themed Crafts

Set up a craft station at home for spring-themed art projects. Ideas include painting flowerpots, creating colorful paper flowers, or making a miniature garden using recycled materials. These activities foster creativity and fine motor skills, as well as add a personal touch to your home decor.

Family Movie Night

After a fun-filled day outdoors, unwind with a family movie night. Go to the movies! During the spring and summer months a lot of new children's movies come out to the theaters. Grab some popcorn topped with butter or candy and enjoy the magic of the movie theater.

If going to the movies isn't something you want to do, cuddle up on the couch and watch a movie at home! You can still make your popcorn and have all the snacks without hustle and bustle of the movie theater. Either way, this is a fun way to bond and relax after a busy day filled with excitement.

Visit a Botanical Garden

Botanical gardens are not only beautiful but also a treasure trove of knowledge. Visit a nearby garden to learn about different plant species and enjoy the stunning scenery. Many botanical gardens host seasonal workshops for kids, introducing them to gardening basics—which can inspire a lifelong love of nature.

Creating a spring bucket list for your family makes the season it rich with fun, learning, and togetherness. Aim to mix outdoor adventures with indoor creativity and relaxation.

Get your kiddo's in on the planning and see what they would like to add into your spring activity bucket list. Letting them collaborate will make them feel important and you may be surprised what they want to do.

So, gather your family, set your plans in motion, and prepare for an unforgettable spring season filled with joy, laughter, and precious memories!
